We started our third core study this week and in our first lesson on this study we learnt about Autism. We discussed who and how many people it affects e..g boys are 4 X more likely to have autism, around 500,000 people in the UK are affected by Autism.
Some of the symptoms of Autism are:
- unable to pretend
- unable to understand how others are feeling
- obsession
- routine behaviour
- Aspergers (speech isn't affected as much and usually above average intelligence)
Theory Of Mind
Theory of mind is the ability to see from another person's perspective and understand how minds in general work. This is thought to develop at around three years of age.
Baron-Cohen has shown that Autistic children do not display TOM skills... this can be tested/ proven by the Sally-Anne test.
